Filler synthesis

Estanit, 14L Hochdruckautoklav

The high pressure autoclave allows for hydrothermal syntheses in a 14 L reactor up to 350 bar for solids, solutions or colloidal dispersions.

Hüttinger BIG 40/100

By inductive heating up to 2100°C melt syntheses of up to 2 kg of solids can be provided under inert gas in a graphite crucible.

Hüttinger TIG 20/300

By inductive heating up to 2100°C melt syntheses of up to 100 g of solids can be provided in high vacuum. Crucibles can be fused gastight in high vacuum.

Additive compounding

Xplore Instr. BV, Micro-Compounder Modell 2016

Batch mixer with two conical co-rotationg screws, max. 250 rpm, inert gas atmosphere. Improved design and festures, manual conectionto the injection molding unit. Mixing volume: 15 ml, with rheological data calculation. Force up to 9000 N, high temp. to 400°C, water cooled.

SpeedMixer (Fa. Hauschild), Modell DAC 150 SP,

double rotation principle, for mixing of visous fluids and incorporation of additives. Capacity: 5-100 g, rotation: 300-3500 rpm, mixing time: 5-600 sec, no cooling.

MTI-Mischtechnik Industrieanlagen GmbH, Labor-Universalmischer LM 2,5 FU,

for conditioning and mixing of materials as powders. Volume: 2500 mL, Mixing capacity: 1900 mL, revolution: 400-4000 rpm, water cooled, direct temperature monitoring of the content.

Gas transmission & barrier measurements

Brugger Gastransmissionstester (GTT)

The Brugger GTT measures the transmission rate of samples against non-corrosive gases (inter alia, helium) by the rising-pressure method within a temperature range of 12-40°C. The measurement limit is 0.5 cc/(m2/day).

Mocon OX-Tran 2/21

The Mocon OX-Tran 2/21 measures the oxygen transmission rate of samples within a temperature range of 5-50°C and a relative humidity range of 35-90 %RH. The measurement limit is 5 10-2 cc/(m2/day/bar).

Mocon OX-Tran 2/21 M10x

The Mocon OX-Tran 2/21 M10x measures the oxygen transmission rate of samples within a temperature range of 5-50°C and a relative humidity range of 35-90 %RH. It detects measurement points down to 5 10-4 cc/(m2/day/bar).

Mocon Permatran- C 4/41

The Mocon Permatran-C 4/41 measures the carbon dioxide transmission rate of samples within a temperature range of 5-50°C and a relative humidity range of 35-90 %RH. It detects measurement points down to 1 cc/(m2/day).

Mocon Permatran- W 3/33

The Mocon Permatran-W 3/33 measures the hydrogen transmission rate of samples within a temperature range of 5-50°C and a relative humidity range of 35-90 %RH. The measurement limit is 5 ·10-3 g/(m2/day).

Sempa HiBarSens

The Sempa HiBarSens measures the hydrogen transmission rate of samples within a temperature range of 5-50°C and a relative humidity range of 50-90 %RH. The measurement limit is 10-6 g/(m2/day).

Flammschutz-Tests

iCone Calorimeter

The Cone Calorimeter allows for the characterization of polymers during different fire scenarios concerning thermal release, CO2/CO development and smoke development.

UL-94 Testing Chamber

With this testing chamber controlled simple experiments concerning the inflammability of polymers and foams can be performed.

Limiting Oxygen Index

An inflammability test for polymers to determine the minimal oxygen concentration (Limiting Oxygen Index, LOI) with which the flame can just be preserved.

Applications, end-use properties and processing of polymers are significantly improved by the incorporation of additives. Polymers without additives are generally not feasible for technological applications. A specific application of additives and fillers allows to tailor polymer properties and extend of the application range of polymeric materials.

The scientific expertise of the KeyLab Polymer Additives and Fillers includes the application of organic and inorganic additives. The KeyLab focusses on the design and synthesis of novel additives, the preparation of easy to dose powders and formulations and efficient incorporation techniques. Modern equipment and techniques for the analysis of temperature stability and of the additives in polymeric material are available. The additives are special designed for different polymers and their intended application incl. mechanical, optical, electrical, barrier- and flame-retarding applications.
